The CLOCHE Bandwagon

I first saw the idea for a cheeseboard turned cloche over at ThriftyDecorChick, and as soon as I saw it I knew I had to craftlift it. I already had the candlestick part (bought for .25 at a local thrift shop) and I knew there was a cheeseboard over at our local Goodwill but I hadn't bought it when I saw it. So I prayed to the craft powers that be that it would be there when I went out the next day and it was, whew, it was. Note to self: ALWAYS buy it when you see it the first time! There usually are no second chances at thrift stores!

Oh yeah, and my nifty Goodwill cheeseboard came with some lovely silk flowers. It took everything I had not to start explaining myself to the cashier and tell her that honest to pete I was going to do something pretty with it and that those flowers were outta here!

So I gathered my supplies. I wanted Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint but it was sold out at Lowe's there must another crafter in these here parts with my brown obsession. But they had another metallic brown that I liked and it was $2 bucks cheaper anyway.

Then I took the little footie things off the cheeseboard (and yes, it did cross my mind for a brief moment to save them . . . but no, I didn't).
Then I put my candle holder on the base and drew a pencil line around it. I did that so when I gooped the glue on I knew where to center it.

Next I used the epoxy and glued it. Well, actually next I opened my tube of epoxy and it squirted on my fingers so I had to go clean up first . . . THEN I glued the candle holder to the cheeseboard.

Hmmm, in cyberspace can you see expoxy bonding?

Time to spray paint! It was a perfect day for that.

The kajillionith time I checked it (or two laundry loads later), it was dry and ready to put on display. At first I thought I was going to put it in my kitchen with some fake lemons I found today for $1.

But it was a little too fancy schmacy for my kitchen. So then I put it on our mantle with my birdcage scored at Goodwill (and trust me, I bought that when I saw it the first time). I LOVE it on my mantle with the little birds nest. Love love love it!

I think every home needs a cheeseboard cloche.
